One Patriotic Coalition of Marginalized Nationals (1-Pacman) Rep. Michael Romero on Sunday said anti-poverty bills on socialized housing, resettlement, idle land, and social security were among the legislative measures expected to be enacted in early 2019 “because they are in the homestretch of the lawmaking process.”
He also said in the last lap were billed on the Pantawid Pamilya Program, microlending/microfinance, the coconut industry sector, waste management, sports training centers for the national level and for Lanao del Norte, and safety of children.
“The tax amnesty bill that I authored in the House for one, which covers all unpaid taxes until Dec. 31, 2017, was already ratified by both chambers of Congress, is already on President [Rodrigo] Duterte’s table for signature. This will be in effect, and can be availed by corporations and individuals, even before the tax filing season in April 2019,” he said.
“Bills I filed or am the principal sponsor of in the first and second regular sessions were among the measures that were consolidated into the bills approved at House plenary and at the bicameral conference committees,” he added.
“With five months left in the third and last regular session of the 17th Congress, I believe there is still enough time to enact several more laws, including the ones on security of tenure of workers, a national maricultural program for inland fisherfolk, urban farming, and green building technology,” he cited.
According to Romero, 2018 was a productive year for 1-Pacman Party-list. “We aim to even exceed that in 2019 and build upon it with new bills filed in the 18th Congress that starts next July,” he vowed.
